My stay at Hill Lily Courtyard was a mixed bag. The location is fantastic, central to many attractions like Tiananmen Square, but the room I ended up with was quite cramped and in need of maintenance. While the staff were friendly, only one person spoke English well, which made communication challenging at times. Overall, while there are some charming aspects like the hotel's character, I wouldn't recommend it without considering all the issues.

Rooms
5.0
The room was small and poorly maintained, with peeling wallpaper and a lack of space for luggage. I appreciated the larger room they offered for one night, but my subsequent room was cramped and noisy.
Service
5.0
The staff were friendly but communication was often difficult due to limited English proficiency, except for one staff member who was quite helpful.
Location
8.0
Perfectly located near major attractions and the subway, giving me a real taste of local life in the hutong.
Dining
5.0
The breakfast options were minimal and not very appealing. I found the Western breakfast lacking, and the Asian options didn't fare much better.
Facilities
5.0
While the hotel had character and a pleasant courtyard, it lacked basic maintenance and housekeeping standards.

I appreciated the central location of Hill Lily Courtyard, which made it easy to explore nearby attractions like Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. However, the room I stayed in was quite small and in need of maintenance, with peeling wallpaper and minimal housekeeping. The breakfast options were limited, but I enjoyed the authentic hutong environment, though it did make the hotel challenging to find.

Rooms
5.0
My initial room was tiny, barely suitable for two, with the bed pressed against the wall. The larger room I briefly enjoyed had decent space but required maintenance. Overall, the accommodations felt outdated and crowded.
Service
5.0
I found the staff's English skills lacking, with most of them being unhelpful. Only one staff member, Paul, could communicate well and was friendly during my stay. Housekeeping was below standards as they did not clean the coffee cups or provide adequate towels.
Location
8.0
The location is a huge plus; it’s nestled in a hutong close to key attractions and local restaurants, allowing me to experience authentic daily life in Beijing. However, it was tricky to locate initially.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was quite basic, with limited options like a fried egg and toast. I did enjoy the Asian breakfast more, but finding decent coffee was a bit hit-or-miss.
Facilities
5.0
Facilities were minimal, with only basic amenities available, which didn't match my expectations for a boutique hotel. I did appreciate the assistance with local tours, but other offered services seemed lacking.

Staying at Hill Lily Courtyard offered a glimpse into authentic Beijing life, with great proximity to attractions like Tiananmen Square. The room was charming yet had some quirks, including cleanliness issues and an uncomfortable loft layout. While it was a unique experience, the smoking atmosphere and limited breakfast options detracted from my stay.

Rooms
5.0
The room was clean and stylish but small, especially with luggage. The loft-style setup featured narrow stairs, and there was some black mold around the shower.
Service
5.0
While the staff tried to be helpful, communication was a challenge due to limited English proficiency, and they were often absent from the front desk.
Location
9.0
The location is excellent, nestled in a vibrant hutong with easy access to the subway, restaurants, and major tourist spots, making it easy to explore authentic local culture.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was included but restrictive, served promptly at 7:30 am. I missed it one morning and was only offered a slice of toast after pushing for a bit.
Facilities
5.0
The hotel had limited facilities, but they offered bike rentals and laundry service. However, the overall cleanliness could use improvement.

Staying at Hill Lily Courtyard was an adventure! The hotel is located in a charming hutong area, allowing me to experience genuine local life. The room was cozy and nicely decorated, though on the smaller side. The staff was friendly, though only one of them was fluent in English, which made communication a bit tricky at times.

Rooms
7.0
My room was small but charming, with a nice western-style bathroom. The space around the bed was limited, but I enjoyed the decor and comfort levels overall.
Service
6.0
The staff was friendly and helpful, but their English was limited. I appreciated the laundry service and help with booking tours, though their presence at the reception could be hit or miss.
Location
9.0
The location is fantastic! It's close to major sites like Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, plus the neighborhood felt very safe and had tons of local restaurants.
Dining
5.0
The breakfast was decent but nothing extraordinary. It included small portions of fruit and toast. It was served in a nice courtyard setting, but I wouldn’t count on having all my meals there.
Facilities
6.0
Facilities included laundry and bike rentals, which were convenient. I enjoyed the ambiance of the common areas, but they might not cater to those seeking full-service amenities.

I had a mixed experience at Hill Lily Courtyard. While the cozy, bohemian atmosphere and the prime location made it easy to explore Beijing's historical sites, I faced several issues with the room and service that dampened my stay.

Rooms
5.0
I was initially offered a larger room which was quite nice, but when I moved to the smaller room I booked, it felt cramped and lacked basic storage. The maintenance issues, such as peeling wallpaper and noise from plumbing, were disappointing.
Service
5.0
The staff was not very helpful, often brushing off my requests. For example, when I had an issue with my reading light, the suggestion to use the overhead light was not very practical.
Location
8.0
The hotel is in a great spot! It is close to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, making sightseeing easy, and I loved the authentic atmosphere of the nearby Hutong.
Dining
5.0
The breakfast options were quite limited. I tried the Asian breakfast but found it unappetizing, so I ended up going back to the Western options which were simple but filling.
Facilities
5.0
The hotel provides basic services but overall, maintenance seemed lacking. Even the coffee cups weren't washed properly during my stay.
